Brazil Passport Photo: check yours against the official spec

For a Brazilian passport, everyone age 5 and older has their photo captured live at the Policia Federal appointment, so most applicants do not bring one. Children under 5 need a recent 5 x 7 cm (50 x 70 mm) colour print of the head and shoulders on a plain white background, with no date stamp and no ornaments, and Brazilian consulates abroad also work with the 5 x 7 format. Use this tool to prepare a compliant under-5 or consular print; note that 5 x 7 cm does not match any US kiosk size.

Common reasons a Brazil passport photo is rejected

  • The child's face is partially covered by accessories, bows, trinkets, or adornments. This is an explicit Policia Federal rejection reason.
  • The photo no longer identifies the child because too much time has passed since it was taken.
  • Eyes closed. Only newborns are exceptionally excused.
  • The background is not white, or a date stamp is printed on the photo.

Photo rejections are common, and you pay twice

A rejected photo means a delayed application and paying again for a retake. It's one of the most common problems people hit when applying, and it's exactly what this tool is built to catch before you submit:

We measure your photo against the official spec, never AI-edit it (itself a rejection reason as of 2026), and back it accepted-or-your-money-back.

What your result screen shows

Every photo is measured against these checks, the same list you see after uploading:

  • Head size
  • Eye position
  • Framing room
  • Resolution
  • Background colour
  • Plain background
  • Even lighting
  • Pose & expression

When every required check passes, the verdict reads β€œPassed” and you can download the exact photo you uploaded, cropped to spec, never edited. If a check fails, you get the reason and how to retake, and you pay nothing.

What real users said

  • β€œPhoto accepted at the post office on the first try, which honestly surprised me. The instant spec check feels like it should be the default everywhere.”

    Derya
  • β€œThe webcam check instantly flagged my background was too cluttered even though I thought it looked fine, which was a nice surprise. Glad I didn't waste money printing a bad photo.”

    Irmak
  • β€œTook a quick selfie with my webcam and it actually flagged the right issues with my framing. Kind of cool that they don't just slap a filter on it.”

    Zafer
  • β€œlove the pay-only-if-it-passes model, such a smart way to build trust before asking anyone to hand over money. the no AI editing promise is a really thoughtful touch too.”

What a passport photo really costs

The photo is the cheap part. The expensive part is a rejection: redo fees, another queue, and a delayed application or trip. Here is the honest comparison:

Pharmacy or retail (CVS, Walgreens)$16 to $17 per attemptNo compliance guarantee. A rejection means paying and queueing again.
USPS photo serviceabout $15Same deal: rejected means a second visit and a second fee.
Cheap online photo editors$1 to $3Most replace your background with software. Edited photos are a documented rejection reason for the US, UK and Canada since 2026, and refunds usually cover technical failures only.
Compliant Passport PhotoFree check. $9 only if it passesWe measure and crop your original, never edit it. Accepted or your money back.

Retail prices are typical 2026 US prices and vary by location. Our guarantee: accepted or your money back.

Built by a real person

Nic built this after his own passport photo was rejected over a sizing issue he could not even see. The tool measures your photo against the official spec and never edits it, because since 2026 the US, UK and Canada reject AI-altered photos.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring a photo for a Brazilian passport?

Not if you are 5 or older: a facial photo is captured at the Policia Federal appointment. The 5 x 7 cm white background print is required for children under 5, and bringing it avoids discomfort and speeds up the appointment.

What are the photo rules for children under 5?

A recent colour photo of the head and shoulders, 5 x 7 cm, on a white background, with no date stamp and no ornaments, and the face must not be partially covered by accessories or adornments. Eyes must be open, except for newborns. The child must still attend in person.

Do Brazilian consulates abroad use the same photo format?

Yes, Brazilian consulates abroad commonly work with the same 5 x 7 cm format. Check your consulate's checklist for the exact number of prints.

Can I get a 5 x 7 cm photo printed at a US pharmacy kiosk?

Not directly: 5 x 7 cm (50 x 70 mm) does not match any standard US kiosk size. This tool lays the exact 5 x 7 cm crop onto a standard 4 x 6 inch sheet so any photo printer can produce it.
