Does the Turkey eVisa need a photo? No, and here is what it checks instead

No. The standard Turkey eVisa application at evisa.gov.tr has no photo upload step: you enter passport and travel details, pay, and receive the eVisa by email. What actually trips applicants is the supporting-document rule for conditional nationalities: if your eligibility depends on holding a visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the US, the UK or Ireland, that document must remain valid for the entire period of your Turkish eVisa, and the portal rejects applications when it does not.

What the application actually asks for

Passport details, travel dates, and payment, all at the official evisa.gov.tr. Third-party visa sites often show camera icons and photo requirements pages for Turkey, which is one reason this question gets asked; those pages describe their own paid services, not the government portal.

The rule that does reject applications

Travelers from conditionally eligible countries must hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen member, the US, the UK or Ireland. Since late 2024 the portal validates that this supporting document covers the full validity window of the Turkish eVisa, not just the travel dates. If your supporting visa expires mid-window, the application will not proceed; apply closer to travel or with a longer-validity document.

If you are later asked for a photo, it will be at a consulate for a sticker visa, which is a different process with the standard biometric photo rules; our free checker covers those.

Frequently asked questions

Do I upload a photo for the Turkish eVisa?

No. The standard eVisa flow at evisa.gov.tr collects passport and travel details and payment only.

Why was my Turkey eVisa application rejected without a photo being involved?

Most commonly the supporting-document validity rule: for conditional nationalities, the Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or permit you rely on must remain valid for the whole eVisa period.

When does Turkey require a real visa photo?

For consulate (sticker) visa applications, which use standard biometric photo rules: 50 x 60 mm at many posts, white background, recent, unedited. Check the specific consulate's checklist.
