Nepal online visa photo requirements (1.5 x 1.5 inch)
Nepal's official online visa portal (online.nepalimmigration.gov.np) asks for a recent digital photo sized 1.5 x 1.5 inches, in JPEG format, no larger than 5 MB, at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, on a white background, taken within the last 6 months. That's roughly 38 x 38 mm if you're used to metric visa-photo sizes, and it's a different, smaller size than the roughly 35 x 45 mm rectangular photo some Nepal visa categories still print and submit in person.

The online spec is square, not rectangular
1.5 x 1.5 inches is a square crop, unlike the rectangular photo most passport and visa systems use. Face the camera directly, keep the head centred and covering roughly 70-80% of the frame from chin to crown, shoulders visible, plain white or light background, no shadows.
Don't reuse a rectangular passport photo
A 2 x 2 inch or 35 x 45 mm photo cropped down to a square by an app can end up with too much empty space around the head or an off-centre face once forced into the 1.5 x 1.5 inch frame. Start from a fresh, square-cropped photo instead of resizing an old rectangular one.
Frequently asked questions
What size does Nepal's official online visa portal require?
1.5 x 1.5 inches, JPEG format, under 5 MB, at least 300 dpi, on a white background, per the official online.nepalimmigration.gov.np portal.
Is this the same size as a Nepal passport photo?
No. Nepal's printed visa and passport photos commonly use a rectangular 35 x 45 mm size; the online visa portal's digital upload is a smaller 1.5 x 1.5 inch square.
