Rite Aid passport photo price: the stores are gone
You can no longer get a passport photo at Rite Aid. The chain closed all of its remaining stores in October 2025 while winding down after its second bankruptcy filing, so as of 2026 there are no Rite Aid photo counters anywhere. Before the closures Rite Aid charged about $15 for two prints. Current alternatives: Walmart at about $7-8, USPS post offices at $15, Walgreens at $16.99, CVS at $17.99 (all as of July 2026), or take the photo yourself and check it against the official spec online for free.
What happened, and where to go instead
Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 in October 2023, closed hundreds of stores, briefly emerged, then filed again in May 2025 and shut its last locations in October 2025. Prescription files were sold to CVS, Walgreens, Albertsons, and Kroger, which is why your pharmacy records may have moved, but the photo service went away with the stores.
Any nearby CVS or Walgreens offers the same walk-in passport photo, at $17.99 and $16.99 respectively as of July 2026. Or skip the counter: photograph yourself against a plain white wall, get the free compliance check here against the State Department spec, and print the 4x6 sheet at any kiosk for about 35 cents. $9 only if your photo passes, money back if the government rejects it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Rite Aid still take passport photos?
No. Rite Aid closed all remaining stores in October 2025 during its bankruptcy wind-down, so the service no longer exists anywhere.
What is the cheapest Rite Aid alternative for passport photos?
Walmart at about $7-8 is the cheapest walk-in as of July 2026. Printing your own checked photo on a 4x6 sheet at a pharmacy kiosk costs about 35 cents.
I found a site quoting a current Rite Aid passport photo price. Is that real?
No, treat any specific 2026 in-store Rite Aid price as stale content. Major-outlet reporting (CNN, Fox Business) confirms the chain's final 89 stores closed October 3, 2025 as part of its second bankruptcy liquidation, so there is no store left to charge that price.
